Drawing upon training in Buddhist,
Hindu, and Daoist meditation, this section of class
is the foundation of allTaiji skills. The standing posture
meditation is particular to the martial arts and is also known
as Wuji--cultivating the emptiness or stillness that becomes the
foundation for movement.
Standing meditation calms and clarifies the mind and regulates the body's
nervous system, promoting deep levels of relaxation and mental stability.
Many variations of the standing posture are introduced, but the process
of properly aligning the body's skeletal system to allow the musculature
to release is only learned through gentle and consistent practice.
